Marion Jones was sentenced to 6 months in prison for lying to investigators about using performance-enhancing drugs and her role in a check-fraud scam.
Jones deserves every minute she will spend in the minimum security prison. Jones was treated like every other human being convicted of the same crimes. In fact, the sentence could have and should have been more severe and Jones ought to be grateful her sentence was only 6 months.
The moral of the story is if you are stupid enough to lie to the government and get caught, you will go to prison. I thought Marion Jones was doing something special, almost super-human by winning 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. As a sports fan, I am ashamed of myself for rooting for her while all that time she was cheating. Just when I am about to get excited about a track and field star athlete breaking records and winning races, I always wonder if they cheating just like Marion Jones did.
